Cow Art

Gallery

All things relating to the beautiful bovine. Since I'm working towards a cow art exhibition I thought it high time that they get their own gallery page.

Bulls Eye

Rodeo Bull

This handsome rodeo bull is giving you the eye. He has a peaceful yet no-nonsense look to him.

I loved creating this bull painting as I yet again let my wild side free rein with color and mark making. Plus I thoroughly enjoy making cow art.

The original cow painting was a mixed media done on suede board. This image was created for the Rolfe Rodeo to be featured as the design on their fund raising t-shirt sales.

Vibrantly colored this dynamic rodeo bull print will surely make a statement wherever it is hung.

Cowgirl

Longhorn Cow

This is one of my favorite paintings. I had kept it as part of my personal collection for quite some time but eventually a buyer wanted her to badly for me to resist.

Once again I was exploring working in a expressionistic and colorist styles while creating essentially a cow painting thats reads realistically at first glance. It is with closer inspection that you notice she is filled with vibrant reds, oranges and purples.

The original cow painting was done in oil pastel on handmade paper. Add some whimsy to your world with a little cow art.

Cows Come Home

Purple Holstein Cows

These lovely ladies were me just having a bit of fun. I love to play with vibrant colors and frankly anything that is naturally black lends itself well to a bit of whimsy.

As so often these models were snapped by my camera on the side of the road. I really love painting cattle. There is something about their head shapes and angles that appeals to the artist in me. But there is also a solemn spirit that for some reason I tend to find amusing. It's like cattle just take life rather seriously and I like to play with that sombre aspect and make it fun.

The original cow painting was done in oil pastel and has been sold.

AND... I'm now on Zazzle so you can get some of your favorite art on various items that range anywhere from art tiles, to sketch diaries to coffee mugs and mousepads. These lovely ladies (the Cows Come Home artwork) are now available on a coffee mug. The image wraps around the mug for a fun and whimsical way to start your day. http://www.zazzle.com/wildfacesgallery*

Daisy

Sweet Little Yellow Heifer - Cow Painting

This sweet little heifer is part of a cow art show exhibition that will be on display in 2015. Her sweet face is what attracted me most to doing her. Those big doe eyes and adorable pink nose. I mean who can resist a face like that. "Daisy" is a name I gave her while my other cow painting titled "Isabell" was the actual name of the cow.

Those familiar with my work know that I love the whimsy of bright colors and while usually I don't "try" to make the art deliberately vibrant, it often just happens almost organically. Generally I do know going in that I want a certain "feel." Meaning I decide ahead of time whether I want the cow painting to be realistic in color and details or more looser and representational with a fun attitude, which usually happens to work itself out in a vibrant color palette.

Most of the cow paintings that are to be a part of this cow art show will be representation yet vibrant and whimsical, though some will lean more toward realism in both color and technique.

The original cow painting is a mixed water media piece that includes, watercolor pencil, water soluble inks and lastly water soluble wax pastels and is done on museum grade suede board.

Freckles

White Longhorn Heifer Cow Art

Freckles was a wooly longhorn heifer I photographed may years ago. Sweet faced seems to be one of my main reasons for choosing particular cows for this cow art project. Well that and all that wild and wooly hair. A fuzzy topnot is hard for me to resist as well.

She is another in my "Cowgirl Collection" series. While I included some strong and vibrant colors in her she also has a nice mix of subtle pastel colors. Browse this page and your can create a nice duo, trio or wall grouping with these fun cattle.

Please Note: the watermark is for online viewing only and does not appear on the final artwork.

Hattie

Holstein Angus Cross Cow Heifer

"Hattie" is another in my "Cowgirl" series of cow painting portraits. Once again it was the wildly wonderful hair that attracted me to capturing her in this mixed media painting featuring watercolor pencil, water soluble ink and water soluble wax pastel. She is brightly colored in a fun and whimsical style and makes a wonderful companion piece to any of the other cow paintings in this collection.

I am having so much fun doing these that I'm beginning to think cow art is the new horse for me.

This image is available in canvas prints as is all of my art. It can be either framed or gallery wrapped (also known as box wrapped.) Please contact me for more information and pricing.

The original cow painting is a mixed water soluble on suede board. Please note the watermark is for online viewing only and does not appear on the artwork or prints.

Isabelle

Purple Angus Heifer Cow Painting

Who doesn't love a purple cow?

Isabelle is a mixed media cow painting that I created from a local herd that photographed in early Spring. I really loved the swirling wispy hair. Unlike "Daisy" "Isabelle" is not a particularly attractive heifer. But there was something about her attitude and that wild hair, rough around the edges kinda thing that appealed to me greatly. And her name was actually "Isabelle" in real life. I knew this because her ear tag (which I didn't recreate in the painting) had it written on it.

This cow painting was done using various water soluble media including watercolor pencils inks and wax pastels and was created on museum grade suede board.

Longhorns

Panoramic Vibrantly Colored Longhorn Cattle

I so enjoy doing these panoramic pieces and my Longhorn Cattle painting is no exception. I play with design elements and negative space and work in fun vibrant colors to really make it pop. This cow art has some large scaled heifers and one bull giving you the eye.

This piece (as is most of my work) is now available as a canvas print as well either in regular depth bars ready for framing or in the deeper gallery wrap or box wrap style for a cleaner more modern look. Contact me for more information or with any questions you may have.

The original cow painting was done with a water soluble mixed media and is completed on suede board.

Lulu

Black Baldie Cow Painting

Lulu the black baldy heifer is giving you the eye in this brightly colored and fun cow painting. This sweet faces heifer was photographed by me belly deep in lush pasture. She didn't much want to be bothered from her grazing so the most I got was a pause mid chew to roll her eye at me, then promptly dropped her head to continue to forage.

This cow print has bright blues and purples which some shocking pops of wines and fuscia. Fun and fabulous my "Cowgirl Collection" heifers are all approximate in size for easy mixing in arrangements of twos and threes. Just visit my shop to see the full line of cow prints available. and check back as more will be added often.

Ruby

Ruby The Red Angus

I photographed the lovely Red Angus heifer knee deep in green grass with a fat calf on her side. She is part of my "Cowgirl Collection" which is a gallery exhibition slated for September 2015. I prefer my cow models to be on pasture as I think they are happier and that translates in their expressions and demeanor.

All of my happy heifers are done in a vibrant and fun color palette. They are all approximate in size so they make quite a statement when grouped in arrangements of threes and fours.

The original cow painting was another mixed media of water soluble mediums including water color pencil, water soluble inks and water soluble wax pastels and was created on museum grade suede.

Please Note: The watermark appearing on this image is for online viewing only and does not appear on the resulting cow artworks.

Rosy

Hereford Heifer Cow Painting

Rosy was a Hereford heifer I photographed knee deep in pasture with a calf at her side. The bug eyed expression was her checking me out to make sure I was safe. She wasn't too concerned though because her mouth was stuffed with grass (which I didn't include in the painting) and she never stopped eating while she evaluated me.

This is another of my Happy Heifer Cowgirl Collection cows created to go on exhibitional display in the Fall of 2015. They are all vibrantly colored and though realistically rendered, they have a quirky almost whimsical quality to them.

Canvas prints are available of this image and can be ordered in either gallery wrap or traditional canvas over stretchers. Please contact me for pricing and information if your are interested in get Rosy as a canvas cow print.

Tough Guy

Rodeo Bull

This bull was loosely based on a rodeo bull waiting in a holding pen. I was attracted by his vivid markings and colorations. However the most important thing that I wanted to convey was a distinctive personality. I wanted "Tough Guy" in a relaxed posture but alert. His expression being an interesting combination of docility, fierceness and a certain serious dignity.

Wooly Bully

Wooly Haired Hereford Calf

It was the dramatic lighting that caught my attention with this sweet little calf with all the wild hair. I like how it halo'd around him, giving him an almost angelic look. And ... well ... I just really love wild hair.

This sweet little hereford calf is part of my cow art exhibition though not part of the Happy Heifer Collection.

The original cow painting was a water soluble mixed media piece done on suede board.
